Dayquan Miguel Ortiz died after his motorcycle slammed into the back of a Jeep just after 2 p.m. near mile marker 7 in the southbound lane of the highway, state police said on Monday. The impact ejected Ortiz from the bike and threw him onto the pavement. Rescuers tried to save his life, but they couldn't revive him.

Paramedics rushed him to Baystate Medical Center, where doctors later pronounced him dead.

The SUV driver was not injured in the crash. Police are investigating what caused the collision, but they hadn't come to a determination of as Monday.

Dayquan Ortiz was remembered as a caring father who deeply loved his friends and family.

Several people posted memorials to the man on social media as news of his death spread quickly.

"My heart is broken right now can’t believe you’re gone so young so precious," one friend wrote. "It’s a cruel world out here."

Family members posted on social media that they would not hold a GoFundMe to raise money for Dayquan's funeral, but instead, they would sell pins and t-shirts with his photo on them to help cover the costs.
